The Front-of-the-Theater Work Begins!

First, we at the Lorain Palace Theater would like to thank the City of Lorain Community Development Dept. and the state of Ohio, Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission for helping us get **grants** for the refurbishing of the front of the building. Second, we wouldl ike to thank Gary Fisher, from Arkinetics, for volunteering his time and expertise. Our goal is to return to the original look of the Palace Theater in 1928, including the marquee with a small blade. But, for now, the focus is on the front of the building, also known as the facade.Joe Leuzzi, the Palace Theater's head of maintenance and jack-of-all-trades, uncovers a beautiful white wall, behind the current brown one.A fellow worker removes grout in the original wall, so that new grouting can be done.

Lorain Palace Youth Theater

The Lorain Palace hosts the longest running youth theater in Lorain Country, The Lorain Palace Youth Theater, which has been consistently producing summer programs for the past thirty years! Have you ever wanted to act in a play, build a set, or apply stage makeup? Well, the Summer Youth Theatre may be for you! Children ages eight to eighteen can enroll in this summer theater workshop. Kids will learn about the theater, work in groups to design sets and costumes, and end the summer by performing in their own production! Past performances have included shows such as "Honk! Jr.," "Wonka," and "Peter Pan." Children meet daily from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., except on Tuesdays, when they are released early so they can catch the Summer Fun Movie series at the Palace. Lorain Palace Theater's First Midnight Movie

The Lorain Palace Theater opened for its first midnight movie, showing Ironman 2! With over 200 people in attendence, John Handyside, executive director, was quite pleased with the turnout. "I was hoping for at least 150 people, and was quite surprised when we hit the 200 mark and then went over!" (John Handyside). The Lorain Palace Theater has been getting more aggressive about getting first run movies. It is difficult for us because we have to keep them for three weeks, and, as you know, we don't just show movies here, we also do live shows. So, the scheduling is sometimes a problem.
